Captured flying bombs base. This view of a section of an unfinished flying bomb projection site captured by U.S. troops on the Cherbourg Peninsula shows the mouth of one of the ski buildings. The ski, so-called because it looks like a ski on its side, is believed to have been designed to store pilotless aircraft and has a curved entrance to protect it from blast. Craters were found all over the site though little damage was done to the main, heavily concrete building, most of the installations being underground. The site is now used as a forward command post for American troops.
