Captured "flying bomb" base. This view of a section of an unfinished "flying bomb" projection site, captured by U.S. troops on the Cherbourg Peninsula, shows a heavily camouflaged ramp with a blast wall on either side. The track on this site is pointing due north. In spite of camouflage, craters from bombs dropped by Allied planes were found all over the site, although little damage was done to the main heavily concreted buildings, most of the installations being underground. The site is now being used as a forward command post by U.S. troops.
