A pair of candlesticks that originally belonged to the paternal grandparents of the donor’s father, Leon Messer. They were given to a neighbor in Antwerp for safekeeping during the war. Leon survived multiple camps, including Auschwitz-Birkenau and Sachsenhausen, and the candlesticks were returned to him after the war.

Josef Mintz was born on 11 March 1901. He was arrested in Warsaw on 13 July 1940 and was sent to Auschwitz on transport of 1,705 prisoners on 22 September 1940. His prisoner number at Auschwitz was 4211. Mintz died in Auschwitz in November 1940.

Tobias Schiff emigrated from Poland to Belgium in 1928, with his mother, Rywa Templer, and his older sister Bajla Basia (Lunia). In March 1943, 20-year old Ovadia Barum was deported with his family from Greece to Auschwitz-Birkenau. His family was sent to the gas chambers. Ovadia survived and was liberated from the Mauthausen concentration camp in May 1945. In Auschwitz he met Aliza Tzarfati.
