Fond nezavisna država Hrvatska

The collection contains various documents from ministries, state institutions, regional and local state, and military institutions. Researchers of the Holocaust will be interested in the materials related to the looting of Jewish property, “Aryanization,” intermarriage, as well as the reactions to persecution from ordinary citizens. The collection contains rich material on interethnic and inter-confessional relations across Bosnia-Herzegovina. This includes cooperation and conflicts between Catholic and Muslim communities in Sarajevo and other locations in Bosnia during the Holocaust. Reports on the entanglements between ethnic cleansing and population transfers can be found, including the planned arrival of Slovene refugees and Muslim refugees from Eastern Bosnia. The Ustasha authorities planned to settle the refugees and supply them with the looted property of persecuted groups such as Serbs and Jews. The collection contains reports on the persecution of Serbs and Jews, particularly the persecution of Serbian Orthodox priests. It includes various documents related to mass arrests and subsequent deportations of communists, Serbs, and Jews across Bosnia-Herzegovina. Researchers of military history will find multiple reports on the activities of the resistance, Partisans, security reports, and background related to the foundation of the Sarajevo security apparatus and the Ustasha corps. The collection is particularly valuable since it contains documents from the “Poglavnikovo povjereništvo” – one of the central bodies entrusted with organizing the Ustasha authority in Sarajevo, as well as Bosnia-Herzegovina. Unfortunately, large sections of the original collection were severely damaged by fire, with only some intact documents remaining in this collection. The collection has a finding aid which is available to researchers inside the archival institution. The finding aid contains detailed descriptions of the most important documents.
