In ständigem Einsatz : das Leben Siegfried Schnurmanns : jüdische Schicksale aus Offenburg und Südbaden 1907-1997
Pp. 21-42 present the text of an interview with Schnurmann, a German Jew born in 1907 in Offenburg. He emigrated to Sweden in 1937 and joined a Hachsharah program in order to prepare for life in Palestine. Pp. 43-71 contain correspondence of Schnurmann with his parents, Elias and Rosa, and two sisters, Elsa and Berta, between 1937-44. His father was interned in Dachau briefly in November 1938. In 1939 his parents emigrated to Luxembourg. In 1943 they were deported to Theresienstadt, where they died. Elsa emigrated to Paris in 1933; in 1939 she was interned in Gurs, escaped and was caught several times, and finally went into hiding. After the war she returned to Paris. Berta could not obtain a certificate to emigrate to Palestine because of her age (she was born in 1903), but joined the last transport in 1940 and entered Palestine illegally. Schnurmann remained in Sweden during the war, emigrated to Palestine in 1945, and returned to Germany in 1951. 1. Aufl. 112 pages : illustrations ; 21 cm
