America at war. U.S. soldiers operate railroad in Iran to speed war goods to Russia. Tunnels such as these enable trains, loaded with U.S. war goods bound for Russia, to get through the mountains of Iran. Much of the mountain railroad route is picturesque country of the sort that prompted President Franklin D. Roosevelt of the U.S. to remark that Iranian scenery is the nearest thing to the United States I have yet seen. The railroad, operated by the U.S. Army, winds from the Persian Gulf to Teheran, capital of Iran, where the Russians take over and relay the supplies to the Soviet Union.
