Life is full of contrast in U.S. Territory of Alaska. In the far northern U.S. Territory of Alaska, land transportation is difficult and many people use planes. In this picture, taken just before the war, a group of people at Anchorage, Alaska, in evening dress, fly in their plane to a nearby dance. This picture was taken at 10 P.M. on a summer evening. In 1940 over 175 civilians planes were in use in Alaska.
