U.S. airmen greeted by Russian soldiers at new American air base in Soviet Union. U.S. airmen and Russian soldiers use smiles and gestures to overcome language difficulaties as they greet each other at one of the new airdromes built for American aircraft in Soviet Russia. The American flyers have just landed for the first time at their new base after blasting German targets in Bucharest, the capital of Rumania, on June 2, 1944. Russian Yak fighters and U.S. Mustangs escorted the Fortresses on the history-making mission which opened a new phase of the Alllied air war against Germany. Both Russian and American personnel make up the maintenance crews of the new abses, located within easy flight range of German industrial targets in Eastern Europe.
