Germans resume feast of Corpus Christi. Cardinal Faulhaber (center), German bishop who repeatedly denounced the Nazi regme from his pulpit, descends an open air altar June 6, 1945, erected in Munich for the celebration of the Feast of Corpus Christy fot the first time since it had been banned when the Nazi come into power. Cardinal Faulhaber is holding the jewelled Sacred Host before him and is assisted by two bishops. Theu are entering the formal procession which wound through the bombed streets of Munich with all the pomp and pageantry of former years. Because of his bitter denunciations of the Nazis, Cardinal Faulhaber was marked for arrest by the Gestapo, but when they went to the Cathedral for him they found him dressed in his full cardinal robes, defying them to remove him from his church.
