Bombs from U.S. navy planes blast Formosa. Bombs from U.S.carrier-based planes explode on warehouses and industrial sheds in Kagi, Formosa, during one of three U.S. Third Fleet attacks on the Japanese-held island during the week of Oct. 9-15. Also his in the week-long assault against Japan's innermost defences were the Tyukyu Islands; Luzon; in the northern Philippines; and the Pescadores, near Formosa. In addition to heavy damage inflicted on airfields, warehouses, repair facilities and other targets, the third Fleet sank or damaged 338 Japanese vessels and destroyed 934 planes. The attacks cost the U.S. two warships damaged and 79 planes lost. NI 9223
