Sydney Goodman (1917-2005) was a Jewish American soldier born in Detroit, Michigan where he owned a body shop. In 1940 he married Grace Goldberg and they had three daughters, Karen (b. 1941), Judith, and Barbara. Contains photographs taken by Elmar L. Martin (donor's father) in Leipzig-Thekla and Berga an der Elster concentration camps (sub camps of Buchenwald) after the liberation in April 1945. Mr. Martin served as a photographer in the US Army Signal Corps, War Crimes Investigating Team.

Relates to Winfield Rosenberg's experience and the experiences of some of his American Jewish comrades at Stalag IX-B, Bad Orb, Germany, and at Berga an der Elster, a Buchenwald subcamp. There also is some information about a death march involving Rosenberg and other American prisoners of war, and their subsequent liberation by the 90th Infantry Division.

Jack Bornkind (1924-1945) was born on 31 January 1924 in Flint, Michigan to Nathan and Rachael Bornkind. He enlisted with the United States Army in 1942 and served in Europe with the rank of Private First Class. He was taken prisoner and was one of 350 American POWs selected from Stalag IXB in Bad Orb, Germany and sent to perform forced labor at Berga, a sub-camp of the Buchenwald concentration camp. ...
