King Haakon returns to liberated Norway. King Haakon of Norway, home for the first time since the German invasion in 1940, inspects a guard of honor composed of U.S. troops during the ceremonies June 7, 1945, welcoming him back to Oslo, Norwegian capital. Exactly five years previously June 7, 1940, King Haakon left Norway for London on a British cruiser to carry on the fight against the Germans.
