Lillian Schachter (1927-2005) was born in Subotica, Serbia to Endre and Ilona (Jelene) Lederer. Her family was forced into the local ghetto from April to June 1944 and briefly transferred to the Bàcsalmàs ghetto in Hungary. Testimony, handwritten, eight pages, Russian, by Fanya Vaisman (Weisman), of Chicago, in June 1994. Originally from a village (Shpikov) in Vinnitsa district, Ukraine, Vaisman describes experiences in Pechora camp and Shargorod ghetto, as well as hiding in forest after escape.

Arthur L. Zegart (1917-1989) was born in Chicago and attended the University of Chicago. During World War II, he was part of a U.S. Army Air Force combat photography unit. He covered postwar relief and refugee efforts by UNRRA and the JDC in Czechoslovakia and Austria. He became chief of the United Nations film division in the late 1940s.
