German youths die for espionage. The lifeless body of a 17-year-old German spy, Josef Schoner, hangs from the stake near Braunschweig, Germany, where he was executed by a Ninth U.S. Army firing squad. Schoner was convicted with 16-year-old Heinz Petry for spying on American forces and both were put to death June 1, 1945.
