German use caves as shelter. Caves inside this massive rock formation near Meschenich, Germany served as a shelter for civilians who fled to escape Allied bombing attacks before capture of the town March 7, 1945. Meschenich, two miles south of Colonge was teken by troops of the Eight Division, First U.S. Army.
