This first deposit apparently came to us via Annelore Leber, the former wife of the pre-1933 SPD MP, Julius Leber, who was tortured and murdered by the Nazis in the aftermath of the plot to assassinate Hitler in July 1944. The donor was instrumental in bringing about the creation of a memorial to the Jews who were deported by the Nazis, by persuading and cajoling the various Greek authoritities. He was also responsible for finding all the names of the individuals.The names on this list correspond with those on the memorial. The memorial was erected in 2001.
