People praying before a temple. Children are trained to bow when they pass before a shrine or temple, but these children are worshiping with their hands joint. They are very polite. Hundreds of lanterns hanging along the caves gives a light which wakes the hearts of worshippers tender. NI 1109

Deze 415 km lange spoorlijn werd door de Japanners aangelegd tussen juni 1942 en oktober 1943, met als arbeidskrachten 180.000 Aziaten en 60.000 krijgsgevangenen (dwangarbeiders). Een beperkt deel van hen bleef tot in 1945 aan de spoorweg werken, voor herstelwerkzaamheden na geallieerde bombardementen. Stoepa's (stupa's).
