He immigrated to the United States with his wife Paula in 1906 and lived in New Jersey where he founded a chemical manufacturing company which bore his name. His granddaughter, Jackie Davidson, is a resident of Deer Isle, Maine, and donated Dr. Pfister's films to Northeast Historic Film.
