U.S. engineers erect pontoon bridges at St. Sauveur. A U.S. Army engineering unit erects a pontoon bridge in St. Sauveur, Normandy. Most of the bridges across the rive were destroyed by the retreating Germans. St. Sauveur le Vicomte was captured after bitter fighting by American troops of the Allied Expeditionary Force during their drive across the Cherbourg Peninsula.

The dog, member of a K-9 unit, aids in spotting Japanese snipers and detecting enemy sneak attacks. The animals also carry messages.

U.S. soldier fires at snipers. A soldier of the First U.S. Army fires at a sniper on the outskirts of Wershau, west of the Cologne-Frankfurt autobahn. Clouds of smoke rise from the town as shells from American artillery pount German troops, Wershau is five miles south east of Limburg, cleared by armor and troops of the First Army March 27, 1945.
