Sonia Manes was born Riva Dym in 1922 in eastern Poland. Her mother died from natural causes during the Russian occupation of eastern Poland. She helped obtain her father's release from a German labor camp. She escaped from the Germans and lived in the forests for three and a half years. She found a a Soviet partisan unit, reunited with her brother, and met her future husband, Hyman Manes (1924-2016) ...

This collection contains documents regarding Manes alias Martin Klinger's life in Germany, his work for copyright agencies including Auteursbureau ALMO, Independant Management Entity, attestations from employers, correspondence, his passport, documents regarding his service in the German army during the First World War, family photos and two medals awarded to Manes Klinger.

This typscript letter addressed to Eva Manes from an unidentified friend of the family describes what happened to Eva's parents and other friends and acquaintances after her departure from Berlin before the war. The author also describes his own experiences after the war in Berlin.

Eugene (Eugen) Mané (1901-1968) was born in Geinsheim, Germany on February 28, 1901 to Isador (Isadore, 1870-1941) and Emilie (née Lehmann, 1875-1941) Mané and had three sisters: Melli (b. 1899), Selma (later Strassburg, 1904-1991), and Bella (1909-2009).
