The Sicilian invasion begins. At dawn on Saturday July 10 1945 the Allied invasion of Sicily began. By July 20 one third of the island had falled to the 8th Army and U.S. Forces. This picture was taken by an Official Naval photographer on the first day of the assa ult, from one of the troopships. NI 6359
