A tank of the 12th Armored Division, Seventh U.S. Army, pushes through a shattered section of Schweinfurt, Germany, April 11, 1945, following heavy artillery and air attacks which preceded entry of Seventh Army ground forces. Schweinfurt, main center of ball-bearing production for the Nazi war machine, is 86 miles east of the Rhine River and Mainz.
