Anne Henk Kooistra maakte eind juni 1940 samen met zijn jeugdvriend Wim Speelman één van de eerste verzetskrantjes. Beiden raakten betrokken bij de verspreiding van het clandestiene blad Vrij Nederland. Kooistra werd op 1 september 1941 gearresteerd en overleed nog geen jaar later op 4 augustus 1942 in Groß-Rosen.
