Lola Goldsmith family papers

Lola Goldsmith (1932-2009) was born Hannelore Goldschmidt, the daughter of Walter and Else (nee Lindau) Goldschmidt, in Hildesheim, Germany. The Goldschmidt family lived in Hildesheim until leaving Germany in 1939, settling in Cirencester, England. Having had to register as enemy aliens, they anglicized their names to "Goldsmith" at this point in time. Lola went to school and spent her early adolescent years in England, and befriended many American men and women who were stationed near Cirencester with the U.S. military during the war years. Following the war, the family decided to immigrate to the United States, and settled in Minnesota in 1947, eventually becoming U.S. citizens. Lola Goldsmith lived the rest of her life in the Twin Cities region, and died in Minneapolis on 4 February, 2009. Correspondence, travel documents, alien registration forms, naturalization papers, photographs, photo albums, prayer books, belonging to the family of Lola Goldsmith (née Hannelore Goldschmidt) and her parents, Walter and Else Goldschmidt, documenting their emigration from Hildesheim, Germany in July 1939, their stay in England from 1939 to 1947, and their immigration to the United States. Additional documents relate to the parents of Walter Goldschmidt, Albert and Marta (Ochs) Goldschmidt.
