Neu family collection

Deutsches Reich Reisepass, passport, issued to German Jewish man, Erich Neu, Born May 8, 1912 in Strasbourg, France, first page, inside cover, stamped with red letter "J" which is dated October 14, 1938, passport dated September 5, 1938, Offenburg, Germany, in German, issued French transit visa in Karlsruhe, Germany and United States immigration visa in Stuttgart, Germany on January 12, 1939. The collection also contains correspondence illustrating the experiences of Clementine and Emil Neu, living in Offenburg, Germany and their children Erwin, Alice and Erich. Alice and Erich immigrated to the United States in 1937 and 1939 respectively and Erwin immigrated to France in 1933. In 1940, Emil, Clementine and Clementine's mother Nanette Wolf were deported to Camp de Gurs in Southern France. Nanette died in France in 1941. In 1942, Clementine and Emil left Gurs and lived in Eux Bonnes, France until they were in danger and were passed into Switzerland where Emil died in 1944. Letters date circa 1939-1946 and are predominately written by Neu family members, German.
