Torn between tyrants memories about the Holocaust that linger on
Hershel Cukierman (later Harold Zissman) was born to a Jewish family. After World War II, he emigrated to the United States. Written in 1952, the memoir (also entitled "Escape to the Forests") describes the author's experiences in the Derechin ghetto, his escape from that ghetto, and his joining a band of partisans.
