Helen Rotenberg Goldberger manuscript

Consists of one manuscript, 10 pages, written by Dr. David Goldberger about his wife, Helen Rotenberg Goldberger. In the text, he describes the facts he knows of his wife's early years, though she did not speak often about that period. Originally from Malecz, Poland [now Belarus], she was sent to the ghetto in Pruzhany after the German invasion of eastern Poland in 1941. Helen managed to escape the ghetto and spent the war in the forest [possibly the Pripet marshes]; after the war, she learned that the majority of her family had been killed. Helen emigrated to the United States; married an American, David Goldberger; and took jobs that allowed her to use her many languages. In the manuscript, Dr. Goldberger also describes Helen's struggle with her past and the depression that finally lead her to suicide in 1963. He explains that he wrote the manuscript in part to call attention to those who survived the war but still had trouble surviving the post-war period. Also includes a photocopy of a photograph of David and Helen Goldberger.
