The Filderman collection
Dr. Wilhelm Filderman was born in 1882 in Bucharest, Filderman studied law and served in the Romanian parliament. He also acted as chairman of most of the important Jewish organizations in Romania, such as the Federation of Jewish Communities, the Union of Jewish Communities in the Regat [pre-World War I Romania], the Union of Romanian Jews, the Joint Distribution Committee’s Romanian headquarters, and the Jewish Council. Contains the personal papers of Dr. Wilhelm Filderman, a leader of the Romanian Jewish community who was active in the rescue of his country's Jews during the Holocaust. Includes Dr. Filderman’s memoirs and book, as well as articles, reports, appeals, newspaper clippings, and correspondence relating to the persecution of Jews during the fascist regime, prewar and postwar Jewish organizations in Romania, and the situation of Romanian Jewry after the war.
