Bessarabian National Education Directorate

In 1864, a new charter of the gymnasiums was adopted. At the head of secondary schools were the director. The main contingent of gymnasium students were the children of noblemen, bureaucrats, and clergy. The director was subordinate to the Ministry of Education and Cults of Romania.
