 The role of the Hilfsausschuß fur die Deutschen in den Niederlanden was the determination of damages and payment of compensation to German citizens who suffered from war damages in the Netherlands; the Hilfsausschuß was based on VO 21/41; Germans outside of the Netherlands were also entitled to compensation, on condition that the damage to property was caused in the Netherlands; most of the claims related to the property of Jewish refugees from Germany who had stored their household contents in storage rooms of shipping companies in Rotterdam; the Germans bombed Rotterdam in May 1940;
 
 In the collection are compensation claims that were submitted to the Hilfsausschuß in Rotterdam by Jews from Germany in the Netherlands during 1940-1943; each claim file has a questionnaire, an inventory list, and correspondence regarding the loss of the claimant's property; 
 Confirmations by the Gemeentelijken Technischen Dienst in Rotterdam, regarding the destruction of businesses and storage rooms that were bombed in Rotterdam; 
 Letters written to the Hilfsausschuß by the Comite voor Joodsche Vluchtelingen, regarding a claim, 1940; 
 Documents regarding the claimants' property, prepared in 1940; 
 Confirmations regarding German citizenship; 
 Confirmations by shipping, moving and railroad companies, regarding the loss of shipping containers and luggage in 1940; 
 Documents of the Holland-Amerika Lijn company (Holland-America Line), regarding the loss of cargo in 1941.
