Zsidóellenes, antiszemita kiadványok

There is a significant collection of Hungarian-language anti-Semitic publications at the Hungarian Jewish Archives that were collected at the time of the worsening anti-Semitism of the inter-war period and the years of the Second World War. Hungary took an anti-Semitic turn shortly after the end of the First World War and adopted the anti-Jewish numerus clausus law concerning its system of higher education as early as 1920. This collection mostly contains leaflets of the Ébredő Magyarok Egyesülete (the Association of Awakening Hungarians), an extreme rightist organization that was a crucially important agent of anti-Semitism during the 1920s and the Nyilaskeresztes Párt (the Arrow Cross Party) that greatly increased its popularity in the late 1930s and was eventually helped into power by the German Nazis in mid-October 1944. The documents thus start before the Nazi takeover of 1933 and cover a quarter of a century of Hungarian anti-Semitic agitation. At the same time, a significant part of the documents in the collection originate from 1944, the central year of the Holocaust in Hungary.
