The Education Aid Society was founded in 1896, the outcome of a set of resolutions of the education committee of the Maccabeans calling for an organisation to enable Jewish children of promise in elementary schools to obtain higher education in secondary schools. The Society aimed to investigate and advise on cases of highly talented, needy students and to provide loans to enable them to train for professions or the pursuit of art.
