Ernst Fraenkel: Academic correspondence
Letters to Ernst Fraenkel on his article “Der Beitrag der deutschen Juden auf wirtschaftlichem Gebiet", Franz Böhm and Walter Dirks (eds.), <em>Judentum: Schicksal, Wesen und Gegenwart</em> (Franz Steiner Verlag: Wiesbaden, 1965), pp. 552-600. <p>Ernst Fraenkel was a Jewish professor of economics and social history. He was born in Breslau, Lower Silesia, and served as a German officer in the First World war. Fraenkel was elected to the Silesian provincial <em>Landtag </em>in the 1930s and acted as secretary of the<em> Gesellschaft für die Wissenschaft des Judentums</em> in Berlin. In 1939 he emigrated to the UK, returning to Germany in 1947. Here he became director of the <em>Institut für Wirtschafts und Sozialgeschichte</em> at the University of Frankfurt am Main, where he died in 1971.</p><p>Not to be confused with the lawyer and political scientist of the same name who lived 1898-1975.</p> Open
