Information of Jews can be found in documents from 1826 and 1939-1945 (persecution of Jews during the Nazi occupation, inventories of Jewish property, Jewish flats, Kohn's lands). The town of Bechyně was founded in about 1323. After 1340, Bechyně was owned by various aristocratic families (the Šternberk family, the Bechyně family from Lažany, the Švamberks, the Rožmberks, the Paars). The first record of the stay of Jews in the town is a tax census from 1570. The Jewish religious community was founded in the town in the 17th century and it was abolished during the Nazi occupation. Since 1850 Bechyně was part of the Bechyně judicial district, in 1850-1855 the Milevsko political district, 1855-1868 Bechyně, 1868-1949 Milevsko.
