Ministerstvo vnitra – Londýn

The fonds is one of the most important archival collections documenting the activities of the Czechoslovak emigration in London between 1940 and 1945. It contains documents relating to the issues of war criminals, citizenship, etc. The Ministry was also involved in the registration of passports, Czechoslovak emigration in other countries, repatriation issues, etc. The 4th Department of the Ministry, whose task was, among other things, political intelligence, in cooperation with the 2nd Department of the Ministry of National Defence and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, tried to document the situation in the Protectorate, in Slovakia, and in Germany. This activity resulted in a large body of documents. For more details on the issue, see: box 255-256, e.g., Persecution and deportation of Jews, lists of deported Czechoslovakians, lists of deportees, lists of deportees from the Czechoslovakia. The lists of deported Jews, anti-Jewish leaflets, information on the activities of Jewish organisations, information on deportation and internment, etc. Also, e.g., box 208, German legal norms, decrees and regulations - status of Jews, Jewish property, concentration of the Jewish population, measures in the territory of the Protectorate. Following the establishment of the Provisional Czechoslovak Government in London in July 1940, the Home Office gradually began to be built up. At first, individual departments were formed, which were transformed into departments. The development of events and the increasingly urgent need to document and collect material of a political nature relating to foreign resistance, domestic resistance and the persecution of Czechoslovak citizens in their homeland, as well as the start of preparatory work for the resumption of the activities of the Ministry of the Interior in all areas of its remit, necessitated the establishment of the Political and State Security Department. After the establishment of the Czechoslovak government in Košice, the Ministry of the Interior in London ceased its activities and began to liquidate the office.
