Le savoir-déporté : camps, histoire, psychanalyse

A collection of brief texts, most of them previously presented by Stern (a Holocaust survivor and Lacanian psychoanalyst) at seminars held in Paris from 1979 on, on "Camps, History, and Psychoanalysis". Pp. 55-102 contain texts written by Stern in 1945, immediately after her liberation, which describe the deportations and her experiences in Drancy, Theresienstadt, and Auschwitz. Pp. 105-113 deal with problems of Holocaust testimony and discuss Claude Lanzmann's film "Shoah". Pp. 189-196 reflect on the effects of the Holocaust on psychoanalysis. Pp. 234-241 discuss Roberto Benigni's film "La vita è bella". The introduction, by Fresco and Leibovici, traces Stern's life story. She was born in Berlin in 1929, immigrated to France with her parents in 1933, was arrested in Paris in 1944, and deported to the various camps. After the war she returned to France.
