The postwar challenge : cultural, social, and political change in Western Europe, 1945-58
This volume charts the changes which took place in Western Europe during the first thirteen years after the Second World War. It brings together seventeen essays by experts from Britain, France, Germany, Italy, and the USA. They look at the many challenges which Western European nations faced during this period: the psychological and material aftermath of the war; the need for economic and social restructuring; and the impact of the Cold War on domestic political, social, and cultural developments. Chiefly revisions of papers presented at an international conference held by the German Historical Institute London on 6-8 July 2001 at Cumberland Lodge in Windsor Great Park. ix, 402 pages ; 23 cm
