London wurde informiert-- : Berichte von Auschwitz-Flüchtlingen
Presents German versions of the reports by Jerzy Tabeau, Rudolf Vrba and Alfred Wetzler, and Czesław Mordowicz and Arnošt Rosin. The editor's introduction, "Auschwitz: Kannte die Welt schon während des Krieges die Wahrheit über das Lager?" (pp. 7-103), gives brief biographies of the men and describes their experiences in Auschwitz; their places of work and contacts which allowed them to acquire a broad knowledge of what went on in the camp; their scheme of escape; and the route by which their reports reached the West. These reports, and others, produced a call for drastic action by the Allies; but nothing was done beyond reports broadcast on the radio and threats of the retribution awaiting the perpetrators after the war. Includes bibliographical references (pages 314-319) and indexes. 334 pages : illustrations ; 21 cm
