Describes the children's block of the "Czech family camp" in Auschwitz (he was in charge of the house of the 3-6 year olds), including visits by Mengele, who took children on his lap and played with them; the liquidation of his transport after half a year; the labor camp at Schwarzheide; and the death march to Theresienstadt in April 1945. Stresses SS tactics to dehumanize the prisoners. also describes his dismissal from his job in a Czech government office during the Slánský trial and the silence about the Holocaust imposed by the communist regime. 1.
