Vertreibung und Ermordung : zum Schicksal der österreichischen Juden 1938-1945 : das Projekt "Namentliche Erfassung der österreichischen Holocaustopfer"
Deals with the problem of commemoration, and stresses the importance of compiling a list of names of all Austrian Jewish victims of the Holocaust. States that in 1934, 191,458 Jews were registered in the country, most of them in Vienna. As a consequence of the pogrom-like acts which preceded the German invasion, between March 1938-May 1939 ca. 90,000 Jews chose to emigrate in order to escape. By the end of 1939 there were 53,000 Jews in Austria. Describes the deportations to Nisko, Lublin, Łódź, Kovno, Riga, and Minsk during the war, and the massacres committed in these places. Mentions deportations to Theresienstadt, and smaller deportations in 1943-45. At the end of 1944 there were 5,799 persons in Vienna who were defined as Jews according to the Nuremberg Laws: 3,388 in privileged mixed marriages, 1,358 in non-privileged mixed marriages, and 1,053 other special cases.
