Istanbul intrigues
A book about Istanbul and those who conducted political and espionage missions there during World War II. On pp. 207-222 describes efforts by prominent Zionists sent by the Jewish Agency in Palestine to Turkey to rescue Jews from Nazi-occupied Europe, mainly from Hungary, Romania, and the Balkans. Discusses the tremendous obstacles the Zionists faced from the governments of Romania, Hungary, Turkey, and Great Britain, which refused to rescind regulations which made emigration or free passage for Jews almost impossible. Claims that more than a million Jews might have been saved had these governments been more sympathetic.
