30 juli 1941
Participants in the signing of the Polish-Russian agreement on July 30, 1941, are shown here with their hosts in London. They are (l. to r.): Poland's Premier Gen. Wladyslaw Sikorski, who signed for Poland; England's Foreign Secretary Anthony Eden, Winston Churchill and Russian Ambassador Ivan Maisky. 'To us,' writes Stanislaw Mikolajczyk, 'it was a moral defeat. It was the beginning of the appeasement of Russia which continues to this day. It made it appear that Russia was doing a generous thing in releasing 1,500,000 Polish citizens'.
