King George and President Truman meet. President Harry S. Truman of the U.S. bids King George of England goodbye aboard the U.S.S. Augusta following their historic meeting August 2, 1945, in Plymouth Harbor, England. Behind the President, holding his hat in his hand, is U.S. Secretary of State James F. Byrnes and Fleet Admiral William D. Leahy, Chief of Staff to the President, is at extreme right. The King came aboard the American cruiser to bid farewell to the President and his party after their meeting aboard the H.M.S. Renown. President Truman was on his way home from the Potsdam Conference.
