The rise and fall of the nazi state. Part II: Infiltration and Lawful Aggression. Germany Consolidatos Position by Signing Pact With Russia - Russian Commissar V.M. Molotow, signt a ton-year non-agression pact with Germany, on August 23, 1939, in Moscow, whil German Minister for Foreign Affairs Joachim von Ribbentrop and Marshal Josef Staling (center) watch. Germany hopedby this pact to allay Russian suspicions and foar of a German attack, although the Germans were already laying plans for the sudden on slaught against Russia which took place on year later. Germany wished also by this pact to secure a free hand in her planned agression in central Europe, which began with the invatsion of Poland on September 1, 1939, and later forces other Balkan and central European nations into political subservience to the Nazi state.
