Harmon (left), commander of Allied air forces in the Solomon Islands, awards the Distinguished Flying Cross to his brother, U.S. Lieutenant General Millard F. Harmon, for extraordinary achievement while participating in more than 500 hours of aerial missions over active combat areas in the Solomon Islands of the South Pacific. Lieut. Gen. Harmon was formerly Commander in Chief of U.S. Army forces in the South Pacific area.
