General de Gaulle decorates French soldiers. General Charles de Gaulle (foreground), President of the French Provisional Government, and General Jacques Philippe LeClerc (right foreground), Corps Commander of the French Army, salute with other French and American officers as the U.S. national anthem, The Star Spangled Banner, is played during their visit to the Seventh U.S. Army sector at Landsberg, Germany, 19 May, 1945. General de Gaulle visited the Second French Armored Division there to promote General LeClerc to the rank of Corps Commander and to present decorations to several French soldiers in the Second Armored Division. He was the guest of Lieutenant General Alexander M. Patch, Jr., Commanding General of the Seventh U.S. Army, and Major General Edward H. Brooks, Commanding General of the Sixth Corps, Seventh U.S. Army.
