U.S. Air General decorated in France. General Dwight D. Eisenhower (left), decorates Lieutenant General Carl A. Spaatz for his exceptional, distinguished and meriorious leadership of the U.S. Strategic Air Forces in their offensives against Nazi aircraft and oil industries. General Spaatz received an Oak Leaf Cluster to his Distinguished Service Medal during the ceremony in France. General Eisenhower said that the Strategic Forces, made up of the Eighth U.S. Air Force in England and the Fifteenth U.S. Air Force in Italy, had weakened the enemy's supply and maintenance system and facilitated the Allied landings and subsequent operations in Nazi-held Europe.
