U.S. Army and Navy Chiefs visit beachhead in Northern France. High-ranking officers of the U.S. Army, Navy and Air Forces, inspect the beachhead established by the Allies in Northern France. King, Commander in Chief of the U.S. Fleet; and General George C. Marshall, Chief of the Staff of the U.S. Army. The Military leaders visited the beachhead on June 12, 1944, six days after the Allied forces launched their new ground offensive against the Germans in Western Europe and breached the formidable German coastal fortifications of the Atlantic Wall.
