Sir John Anderson hands over Britain's first permanent air-raid trench. Sir John Anderson, the Lord Privy Seal and Minister for Civilian Defence, formally handed over to the Mayor of Islington, Alderman D. McArthur Jackson, the first permanent and comprehensive air-raid trench system to be completed in Britain. The trenches are situated at Islington Green, North London.
