Pre-fabricated airplane hangar at U.S. base in Aleutians.
Pre-fabricated airplane hangar at U.S. base in Aleutians. This structure is the collapsible, sectional steel frame of a canvas airplane hangar at a U.S. base in the north Pacific Aleutian Islands. Covered with pre-sized strips of camouflaged canvas, the hangar can house several small and medium bombers for protection, emergency repairs, or other uses. The hangar could be moved to a new location in a few days. The end of the war permitted, for the first time, the release of photographs of U.S. bases in the north Pacific Aleutian Islands. The Japanese were driven from Attu Island in May, 1943, and abandoned Kiska by August 15.
